Ask Dockli remembers your conversations. Every chat — global or folder-scoped — is saved automatically as you go, so you can pick up where you left off or refer back to something Dockli found last week.
Where chats are saved
Conversations are stored locally on your device, in the browser-layer database that backs Dockli’s interface (IndexedDB). Nothing about your chat history is uploaded to Dockli — it stays on your machine.
History is per Microsoft 365 account. Each saved chat is stamped with the account (your UPN) it belongs to, and the Chat History drawer only ever lists the account you’re currently signed in as — exactly like Favorites. When you switch accounts, the open conversation resets and the drawer re-lists only that account’s chats; one account’s history never bleeds into another’s.
Chats save automatically a moment after each turn, so you never have to save manually. A chat’s title is taken from your first message in it.
New Chat and Chat History
Whenever you’re in AI Mode, two buttons appear in the Dockli header:
- New Chat — start a fresh conversation (its tooltip reads “Start a new chat”). It clears the current thread; the previous one is already saved and stays in your history. This button appears once a conversation is underway.
- Chat History — open the history drawer (its tooltip reads “View chat history”).
The Chat History drawer
Click Chat History to slide out the Chat history drawer from the right edge. It lists your saved chats, newest first. Each entry shows:
- The chat’s title.
- A timestamp — a time for chats from today, or a date for older ones.
- For a folder-scoped chat, a folder subtitle (with a yellow folder icon) showing the folder it was tied to, so scoped chats are easy to tell apart from global ones.
Click any entry to reopen it. Use the × at the top or click outside the drawer to close it.
Reopening folder-scoped chats
A folder-scoped chat is deep-linked back to its folder. When you click one in the drawer, Dockli closes the drawer, navigates to that folder, and reopens the scoped panel with your saved conversation.
If the original folder no longer exists — it was moved, deleted, or you’ve lost access — the chat still reopens, but read-only. The panel shows a lock and the notice:
This location is no longer available. This chat history is read-only.
You can still read the whole conversation; you just can’t send new messages into a folder that’s gone.
Deleting chats
- Delete one chat. In the drawer, click the ⋯ (More) button on a chat and choose Delete. The chat is removed immediately. If it was the one you had open, the conversation clears.
- Clear everything. Click Clear all history at the top of the drawer. This removes only the current account’s chats from this device — any other account’s history on the same machine is untouched.
Deleting is permanent
Removing a chat or clearing history deletes it from your device for good — there’s no undo. Because history is local, it isn’t recoverable from the cloud.
