Email and Teams

Draft, refine and send email and Teams messages without leaving the assistant — with recipient pickers, AI tone controls, and file attachments pulled straight from your workspace.

Last updated: July 2026

Ask Dockli can turn “email this to Priya” or “send the vendor summary to the Finance channel” into a fully drafted message you review and send — without opening Outlook or Teams. It generates an editable composer right inside the conversation.

Composing an email

Ask Dockli to write an email — for example, “Draft an email to the project team summarizing today’s decisions and attach the meeting notes.” Dockli prepares the draft and renders an inline email composer in the chat, styled like new Outlook:

  • Send and Discard in a command bar at the top.
  • A To row with a people picker; click Cc or Bcc to reveal those rows.
  • A subject field (placeholder “Add a subject”).
  • Any files Dockli attached, shown as removable chips.
  • A rich-text body you can edit directly (bold, italics, underline, bulleted and numbered lists).

Everything is editable before you send — recipients, subject, body and attachments.

AI tone buttons

Above the body sit three tone buttons that rewrite just the body for you:

  • ✨ Professional
  • ✨ Friendly
  • ✨ Shorter

Click one and Dockli rewrites the message body in that style, leaving your recipients and subject untouched.

The revise box

Below the body is a revise box for free-form edits. Type an instruction — for example “add a Friday deadline” or “make it more concise” — and press Enter or click Apply. Dockli updates the subject and body accordingly. Unlike the tone buttons, the revise box can change both the subject and the body.

Sending

Click Send. The message is sent as you, from your own mailbox, using your Microsoft 365 permissions. Dockli confirms with a note such as “Email sent to Priya Shah.” If an attachment was too large to send directly, Dockli tells you which file it skipped.

Composing a Teams message

Ask Dockli to message someone or post to a channel — for example, “Message Darius the contract” or “Post the summary to the Marketing channel.” Dockli renders an inline Teams composer headed “Send via Teams”:

  • A To row with a destination picker (placeholder “Type a person or channel”).
  • The message body (placeholder “Type a message”).
  • Any shared files as removable chips.
  • Discard and Send at the bottom.

The destination picker handles both kinds of target: pick one or more people to start a chat (a group chat if you pick several), or pick a single channel to post there. Channels are marked with a # badge. Selecting a channel clears any people you’d picked, and vice-versa, so the message always routes to exactly one place.

Click Send and Dockli posts the message, confirming with a note like “Message sent to #Marketing in Contoso Marketing on Teams.” or “Message sent to Darius Bell on Teams.”

Recipient and destination pickers

Both composers search your organization’s directory as you type (from the third character). Results show a name, a photo where available, and a job title or email. Use the arrow keys to move through matches and Enter to add one; in email you can also type a full email address directly and press Enter, comma or semicolon to add it. Each recipient becomes a chip with an × to remove it. In the email picker, pressing Backspace in an empty field removes the last chip.

Looking people up and messaging on your behalf require additional Microsoft 365 permissions — granted once, by you, the first time you use each feature. This uses incremental consent: Dockli only asks for a scope at the moment you need it, never up front.

  • People lookup. The first time the picker needs directory access, it shows a single button — “Enable people lookup” with the sub-label “Search your organisation’s directory by name.” Click it, complete the one-time Microsoft consent, and the search runs immediately.
  • Teams messaging. The first time you compose a Teams message, the picker shows “Enable Teams messaging” with the sub-label “Message people and channels, share files.” Consent once and you’re connected.
  • Sending mail uses the Mail.Send permission, again requested through this one-time connect flow.

You are always the sender

Email and Teams messages go out as you, using your own Microsoft 365 identity and permissions. Dockli composes the draft; you review and click Send. It can only reach people and channels you could message yourself.

What is sent

When you send, Dockli passes the message — recipients, subject, body and the identifiers of any attached files — to your local Dockli service, which sends it through Microsoft Graph as you. The AI model that helped write it does not send your mail; it only produced the draft text. See Ask Dockli privacy and security for the full picture of what reaches the model and what doesn’t.
