Uninstalling and offboarding

Offboarding is as simple as onboarding. Remove someone from the group to release their seat, uninstall the app per-user to clear local data, or contact Dockli to wind down the whole tenant.

Removing access from Dockli mirrors granting it. There’s a per-user side (uninstall the app, clear local data) and an admin side (release the seat), and for a full wind-down there’s a tenant side. This page covers all three.

Removing a single user

To revoke one person’s access, remove them from the Dockli access group in Microsoft Entra. That’s the whole action:

  1. Open the Dockli access group in the Microsoft Entra admin center and go to Members.
  2. Remove the user.

Their seat is reclaimed automatically at the next reconciliation — within about four hours, or immediately if the Dockli team runs a Sync now. The reclaim happens even if the user never opens Dockli again, so a departed employee’s seat is always freed for reuse. There’s nothing to cancel per-person; the group is the single control.

The user's local app is separate from their seat

Removing someone from the group releases their seat. It doesn’t uninstall the app from their machine. If they still have Dockli installed, they simply won’t have a working seat the next time it checks in (status no-seat). Uninstalling the app is the step below, and is optional for offboarding.

Uninstalling the app (user side)

Dockli removes cleanly like any per-user Windows app — no admin rights needed:

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find Dockli and choose Uninstall.

Uninstalling:

  • Unregisters the File Explorer integration and removes the Dockli entry from the navigation pane (Explorer restarts to drop it).
  • Clears Dockli’s local data under %LocalAppData%\Dockli, including the encrypted sign-in cache.
  • Releases the user’s seat back to your organization automatically.

Because seats are sticky and group-driven, a user who uninstalls and later reinstalls — while still in the group — simply reclaims their seat at the next sign-in.

Wiping local data

A standard uninstall already removes the %LocalAppData%\Dockli folder, so no separate cleanup is normally required. Dockli stores nothing outside the user’s profile, holds no data under the system/Program Files locations, and never touches your Microsoft 365 files — those always live in Microsoft 365. If a machine is being reimaged, the reimage clears the profile and with it any Dockli data.

Files are never at risk

Installing or uninstalling Dockli never moves, copies, or deletes anything in SharePoint, Teams, or OneDrive. Dockli is a window onto Microsoft 365, not a sync folder — removing it removes only the local app and its cache.

Winding down a whole tenant

To decommission Dockli for the entire organization, contact the Dockli team. Tenant-level lifecycle is managed vendor-side through the Dockli admin dashboard, where your tenant and its licences can be:

  • Suspended — a temporary hold that gates every user at their next check, reversible by reactivation.
  • Cancelled — ending the agreement; all users are gated at their next sign-in or heartbeat.

Because these take the licence out of the Active state, access stops for everyone quickly and centrally — you don’t need to touch the group or individual machines. You can then have clients uninstalled through your normal software-management process if you want the app removed as well. For how these states gate access, see Licensing and entitlement.

Suspend vs cancel

Use suspend for a temporary pause you intend to reverse, and cancel to end the agreement. The Dockli team can also permanently delete a tenant’s records on request — an irreversible action distinct from a reversible suspension.
