Two rules explain almost everything on this page: Dockli shows only what your Microsoft 365 account can already see, and actions require the same edit rights you’d need in SharePoint or OneDrive. Find your symptom below.
A licensing screen is blocking Dockli
If you’re signed in but Dockli shows a full-screen licensing message instead of your files, match the exact title you see below. Each one comes from a different cause, so the fix differs. The account menu stays available on all of them, so you can switch accounts at any time.
Dockli is patient about outages
Licensing tolerates brief service blips: the check waits up to 20 seconds for a cold start and retries, and a valid seat keeps working for a 10-day grace window if the licensing service is briefly unreachable. So a momentary problem shows a Try again button, not a hard denial.
”No Dockli seat assigned”
No Dockli seat assigned You’re signed in, but your organisation hasn’t assigned you a Dockli seat yet. Ask your IT administrator to add you, then try again.
Cause: Your organization has Dockli, but you personally haven’t been given a seat yet. Seats are granted through a Microsoft Entra security group.
Fix:
- Ask your IT administrator to add you to the Dockli Entra security group and confirm a seat is available.
- If you were just added, wait a few minutes — group membership can take a little time to propagate.
- Click Try again on the gate (or sign out and back in) to re-check.
See Access groups and seats for how seat assignment works.
”Dockli isn’t licensed for your organisation”
Dockli isn’t licensed for your organisation Your organisation doesn’t have an active Dockli license. Please contact your IT administrator.
Cause: Your whole organization doesn’t have an active Dockli license — so there’s no seat to assign. This is the one gate without a Try again button, because retrying won’t change the answer.
Fix:
- Contact your IT administrator. Only they can arrange a license for the organization.
- Point them to Licensing and entitlement.
”Your Dockli license has ended”
Your Dockli license has ended Your organisation’s Dockli license has expired. Contact your IT administrator to renew it.
Cause: Your organization had a Dockli license, but it has expired.
Fix:
- Ask your IT administrator to renew the organization’s Dockli license.
- After they renew, click Try again to re-check.
”Couldn’t verify your license”
Couldn’t verify your license We couldn’t reach the Dockli licensing service. Check your connection and try again.
Cause: This is not a “you have no seat” message — Dockli simply couldn’t reach the licensing service to check. It’s usually a network, firewall, or proxy issue, or a transient service blip.
Fix:
- Check your internet connection.
- Click Try again — a brief outage or a cold start often clears on the retry.
- If it persists, your firewall or proxy may be blocking the licensing endpoint — see Endpoints to allowlist and Performance and network.
My access stopped working / a seat was removed
Symptom: Dockli worked yesterday, but today you’re gated, or AI features stopped.
Cause: A seat was unassigned, you were removed from the Entra security group, or the organization’s license lapsed. Server-side enforcement catches up within a refresh window even if the interface still looked fine for a while.
Fix:
- Ask your IT administrator to confirm you’re still in the Dockli Entra security group and that a seat is assigned to you.
- Confirm the organization’s license is still active.
- Once restored, click Try again or sign out and back in.
No files or sites are showing
Symptom: The sidebar is empty, a site or library you expect is missing, or a folder shows nothing.
Cause: Dockli surfaces only the SharePoint sites, Teams, and OneDrive content your Microsoft 365 permissions already grant. If you can’t see a site in the SharePoint web UI, you won’t see it in Dockli either. (A truly empty list can also be a transient load — see below.)
Fix:
- Confirm you can open the same site or library in a browser at your organization’s SharePoint. If you can’t there, it’s a Microsoft 365 permission — ask the site owner to grant you access.
- In Dockli, click Refresh (or return to Dockli after switching away — it re-pulls automatically).
- For very large organizations, sites and folders load on demand — give the list a moment, and open a site to load its contents.
- If the sidebar shows an error instead of an empty state, check your connection and see Performance and network.
Recently granted access?
Newly granted SharePoint or Teams access can take time to appear. Refresh Dockli, or sign out and back in, once your access has been confirmed on the Microsoft 365 side.
I can’t delete, rename, move, or upload
Symptom: The delete/rename/cut/move option is greyed out, or an action returns an error like “Access Denied: You do not have permission to modify this item.”
Cause: These actions require edit rights on the item in Microsoft 365. Dockli disables actions you’re not permitted to perform, and if a guardrail is bypassed or your permissions change mid-session, the server returns a clean Access Denied message. Copy is always allowed because it’s read-only.
Fix:
- Check your permission on the item in SharePoint/OneDrive — you need edit (contribute) rights, not just read.
- Ask the site or folder owner to grant you edit access if you should be able to change it.
- For read-only folders, dropping files in is rejected with “You don’t have permission to add items here.” — you’ll need write access to that folder, or drop into a folder you can edit.
Metadata or a version restore won’t save
Symptom: Editing a SharePoint column/property or restoring an earlier version fails.
Cause: Writing metadata and restoring versions both require edit rights in SharePoint. A read-only column (or a field SharePoint validates) will also reject a change, surfacing SharePoint’s own message (for example an invalid date format, or a field marked read-only).
Fix:
- Confirm you have edit rights on the file’s library.
- Read the returned message — Dockli passes SharePoint’s actual validation text through, so it tells you exactly what was wrong (a format, a required field, or a read-only column).
- Fix the value or ask the library owner for edit access, then try again.
Still stuck?
If files or seats still aren’t behaving after these steps, email support@dockli.io with the exact on-screen message, the name of the site or file, and whether you can open the same item in the SharePoint web UI. See also Licensing and entitlement and Access groups and seats.
