Sharing files and folders

Share anything from File Explorer the way you would in OneDrive — invite people, copy a link, and see or change who has access.

Last updated: October 2026

Dockli’s Share dialog works like the one in OneDrive and SharePoint, without leaving File Explorer. Everything goes through Microsoft 365, so the same sharing rules, notifications and audit trail apply as when you share on the web.

Opening the Share dialog

  • Right-click a file or folder and choose Share, or
  • Select a file and click Share in the details pane.

The dialog opens titled Share “<name>”.

Inviting people

  1. In Add a name, group, or email, start typing a name and pick people from your organization’s suggestions. To add someone by email address, type the full address and press Enter.
  2. Choose Can edit or Can view for the people you’re adding.
  3. Optionally Add a message.
  4. Click Send. Microsoft 365 notifies them by email with a link to the item.

Click Copy link to create a sharing link and copy it to your clipboard. The settings button (⚙) next to it opens Link settings, where you choose:

  • The link works for — People in <your organization>, Only people with existing access, or People you choose.
  • More settings — whether the link lets people Can edit or Can view.

Click Apply to go back and copy the link with those settings. Hover Copy link to see who the link will work for.

Managing access

Click … (Manage access) in the dialog’s header to see everyone who has access and every sharing link for the item. From there you can switch a person or link between Can edit and Can view, or remove their access. Owners, and access the item inherits from its library or site, are shown but can’t be changed here — manage those in SharePoint.

Your organization’s sharing policy

Dockli follows the sharing settings your admins have set for the tenant and for each site:

  • Link settings only offer the link types the item’s site allows. If a site doesn’t allow links for everyone in the organization, for example, that option isn’t shown.
  • If you don’t have permission to share an item, the dialog says You don’t have permission to share this item and Send and Copy link are unavailable.
  • If Microsoft 365 rejects a share — for instance because of a tenant-wide policy — Dockli shows Microsoft’s reason so you know what to ask your admin about.

No extra permissions

Sharing uses the Microsoft 365 permissions Dockli is already granted when your organization approves it. Admins don’t need to approve anything new. See Permissions and scopes.
